Ancient Grasslands and Grass Evolution in Paleontological Podcasts

Golden grasslands in California.

During the pandemic, one of the best things I liked doing was walking around the neighborhood and listening to podcasts. In terms of botanical topics there was nothing even remotely close to In Defense of Plants, but I also followed some paleontological podcasts like Palaeocast, and especially enjoyed topics like the Eurypterids and Trilobites.

Later, I discovered another paleontological podcast called Common Descent, which I also enjoyed. Both these podcasts had episodes that focused on grasses and grasslands, which of course reinforces the importance of this plant family to life on earth.

Such podcasts cannot really provide dense information on any one topic, but they are very entertaining and easy to listen to when one is otherwise engaged in other activities, such as walking or hiking.

I listed below the two episodes from each of the podcasts, and I invite you to check them out and enjoy!

Glad you’ll be able to listen to them. Podcasts are an under appreciated medium for spreading good information. I particularly like Common Descent because the hosts are engaging and funny, but Palaeocast has its moments with subjects like the Eurypterids.

I think you’ll like them, especially if you’re into paleontology!
