When people are asked to name some of the most beautiful flowers, it’s very unlikely that members of the Poaceae would be included in such lists. This is because grasses are wind pollinated, and thus there is no need to spend energy on elaborate and large floral structures that would attract pollinators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And yet when closely observed and magnified, grass flowers can more than hold their own against the best of the other plant families due to their complex spikelets, as well as their colorful anthers and stigmas. So perhaps it’s time to start a series that focuses solely on the beauty of grass flowers, and I will do this by high-lighting images that I’ve taken in the past and going forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this first post, just a few images I’ve posted before, but which I believe showcase how elegant and colorful some grass flowers can be. More in the future!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
