Despite a lack of formal education, Julius was an eminent authority on nature, known and welcomed at botanical gardens and zoos. He was also one of the pre-eminent members of the International Aroid Society, a fixture in the organization who was instrumental in its success.
An oral history by Julius is located here.
Julius was enamored of the Thaumatophyllum, and searched far and wide for unique and rare specimens from this group, and participated in investigations to uncover more information about these magnificant aroids.
Julius passed away peacefully Sunday, July 11, 2010.
Steve was the founder and creator of The Exotic Rainforest in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, perhaps the only living rainforest collection in the area. He was a wide-ranging photographer and writer in his youth, and he travelled widely around the world. He became fascinated with aroids, and became one of the most active and knowledgeable members of the International Aroid Society. He frequented many aroid forums and mailing lists, where he strove to illuminate people on the joys of aroids, as well as muster support for the IAS.
Steve held a particularly fond regard for the Thaumatophyllum, and participated in investigations to uncover more information about these aroids.
Steve passed away on January 13, 2011, and he will be sorely missed by everyone.
