Odontodactylus scyllarus by Steve Norvich (40 kb)

Interesting side picture of a mantis shrimp also taken at Kungkungan Bay Resort (KBR), which is located on Indonesia's Lembeh Straits, a "waterway with frequent ship and boat traffic ranging from outrigger canoes to Indonesian warships". The third to fifth legs (which the critter uses to manipulate its food) can be clearly seen underneath one of the beautifully sculptured and red "clubs". A large specimen like this, with its mottled carapace and golden-red front ends can fetch up to $40-50 in marine stores.
