Metric System Usage

This site uniformly uses the metric system for all weights and other measures, and reserves the right to add editorial conversions to any other measurement systems used in notes or articles posted. This is for a variety of reasons, most importantly:

  1. The site will adhere to common scientific conventions, including measurement standards, because it strives to be a scientific and educational resource in addition to being a resource for hobbyist and other non-academic audiences.
  2. The site strives to be a resource for as wide an audience as possible (or at least as wide an English-speaking audience as possible). Thus, it will adhere to the measurements in use internationally.

A quick conversion list for those in the U.S. unfamiliar with the metric system:
1 cm = 0.4 inches
1 meter (m) = 100 centimeters (cm) = 1000 millimeters (mm) = 3.28 feet
1 kilogram (kg) = 1000 grams (g) = 2.2 pounds
1 liter (L) = 1000 milliliters (ml) = 0.264 gallons
0 Celsius = 32 Fahrenheit

You can find a javascript-based conversion script here for length and weight. You can find a Fahrenheit to Celsius (and vice versa) conversion script here.
